"I help people talk about what matters most—before it’s too late. Because when we talk openly about death, we deepen our relationships, ease fear, and create peace—for ourselves and for those we love. I'm happy that you're here."

Compassion In Conversation
Inspired by one simple, brave conversation, Sarah Cavanaugh began Peaceful Exit and has nurtured a space for honest dialogue about end-of-life choices through interviews, an online course, and a forthcoming book.
Get to Know Sarah
Like many people, there was a time when I didn’t have the language—or the courage—to talk about grief, dying, and death.
I was born into a family shaped by the loss of a child—the brother I never met. In our home, death and grief were present but unspoken. That silence gave me an early and lasting understanding of the psychological and physical impact of unprocessed grief.
I also know firsthand the complexity and emotional toll of navigating death within the medical system. When my mother was dying of cancer in 2002, her final months were marked by aggressive treatments and separation from those who loved her most. I never asked her what she wanted at the end of her life. That experience profoundly shaped my commitment to addressing these conversations openly—before it’s too late—and to helping others find a way into topics we’re often taught to avoid.
How Peaceful Exit Was Born
The spark for Peaceful Exit came years later, when I met Susan, an 82-year-old woman at a workshop who quietly said to me, “I’m still working full time, and I have no plan for retirement or the end of my life.” I replied, “Let’s figure it out.” Together, with a small group of curious friends, the conversation began—and Peaceful Exit was born.
Over the past several years, facilitating these conversations has reinforced what I believe deeply: talking about death strengthens our relationships, eases our fear of mortality, and creates space for acceptance and peace.
As an author, podcast host, and co-creator of the online course and Discovery Guide, I create spaces for honest, compassionate dialogue about life and death—and offer practical steps to prepare, not as something morbid, but as an act of love and service to those we care about most.
